DPRGRM, PilotLite, Mythos Media & Foolishpeople Present: Y

In a post-apocalyptic world, Y is a documentary-style reality show where the grand prize is the future of our species on planet Earth. Mythos Media and FoolishPeople will join with DPRGRM/Pilotlite to create 'Y', a feature film that starts shooting in Los Angeles July 2009.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) March 3, 2009 -- DPRGRM/Pilotlite announced a project today that forges a new path in independent cinema by bringing together real world experience and film in a unique way. 'Y' brings an audience inside the creation of a modern myth. The audience will become actual cast members, and be immersed in the story in real time. The film crew will also be part of the story as well as part of the cast, therefore creating a total immersive experience that bridges the traditional proscenium of audience/performer.

The ambitious staging and shooting technique is enhanced by the premise that in the future, government facilities, such as the one depicted in this film, will have to turn to unorthodox means of funding, such as contracting the facility out as the subject of a reality based TV show. The actual crew will be made up of news, reality and documentary style cinematographers and the production will be filmed entirely in the Cinéma vérité style.

Written by John Harrigan and James Curcio, and directed by Joseph Matheny, Y is a unique production fusing characters from Curcios second published novel, Fallen Nation: Babylon Burning and Harrigans screenplay GraveLand, currently in pre production.

DPRGRM will finance and distribute the film, working alongside online media corporation Pilotlite, a joint venture between Joseph Matheny and Michael Mailer Films.

We chose this project and this team specifically because the project lends itself to the medium and the people can keep up.

I am really hard on people who stress the tibetian connection to the five rites as described by Peter Kelder in the Eye of Revelation.

Carolinda Witt in her wonderful manual titled "the 10-minuet rejuvenation plan" refers to the five rites as "The Five Tibetians" but that is as far as it goes. She teaches from her own direct experience from doing the rites over an long period of time.

"the 10-minuet rejuvenation plan" is 165 pages of wonderful photographs and full of ideas that make the pracice of the five rites safer than ever...this is a good book.

Carolinda is a genuine person and not one of these folks who are ripping off the five rites to pass themselves off as a personal development guru. She has really done her homework.

So if you are like me and the tibetian angle is going to turn you off...just ignore the whole T5T connection to tibet and focus on the photos...Carolinda is pretty hot...I mean...the detailed information is very helpful.

Eye of Revelation: Scientific Utility of the Five Rites

The Five Rites of Rejuvenation as described by Peter Kelder (Eye of Revelation) in 1937 are a striking example of how Orgone energy is created and circulated in the body. In that same year, in his work Experimental Investigation of the Electrical Function of Sexuality and Anxiety, Dr. Wilhelm Reich, M.D. demonstrated his hypothesis that the storage areas of bioelectrical energy was the autonomic nervous system. Dr. Reich identified neurotic sexual stasis, on a physiological basis, as "the expression of the impaired functioning of the autonomic ganglia".

George Crile (in 1936) also in shows in "The Phenomena of Life- A Radio Electric Interpretation" how the glands govern the bodies electrical systems. "It is at once clear that there is within the organism an energy controlling system which is activated by the special senses primarily. Theoretically, this system would consist of the special senses the brain, the adrenal-sympathetic system and the thyroid gland." 1

If one pays particular attention to the Five Rites they will see that in each position the head is tucked in or it is stretched back. These are not physical exercises or strenuous stretches meant to give you a work out. The very subtle and gentle action of tucking your chin next to your chest applies a very small amount of physical stress to the thyroid gland. This gland over time will begin to actually grow stonger cause of this stress. As the glands grow stronger, tougher, more resilient the body is able to create and circulate more bio-electricity.

The same holds true for stimulating the adrenal-sympathetic system. It is not hard to see how certain parts of the rites are meant to gently stimulate the kidneys and strenthen the adrenal cortex.

Peter Kelder in his original work (available only from Borderland Sciences Research Foundation since 1975) talks about how this energy is turned ever upward.

"...the SUPER-MAN turns the procreative urge upward and reproduces within himself a new man - a stronger, powerful, magnetic man who is constantly growing younger, day by day, moment by moment."

To fully understand the "intuitional" and "poetic" language Peter Kelder was using it will be vital to divert into a section of Wilhelm Reichs work on Orgone energy.

Experimental Investigation of the Electrical Function of Sexuality and Anxiety

The experimental investigation of skin potentials in pleasure and anxiety has supported our hypothesis that the process of excitation gives rise to two opposite directions of flow of bioelectrical current: towards the periphery and towards the center. The question of the nature of the current may now be clearly answered, the sensation of streaming is not solely contingent upon the blood flow in pleasure and anxiety, but also on the transmission of electrically charged particles by the blood and lymph streams. It has long been known that ionic currents exist in the blood.

The skin now turns out to be the peripheral site at which the electrical charges are deposited or withdrawn; the autonomic periphery, so to speak. The existence of the direction "towards the world," on which we based our sex-economic: theory of the instincts, is clearly confirmed.

However, the nature of the direction "away from the world, into the self" has remained less clear until now. Where is the bioelectric current concentrated during anxiety? This brings up the question of the autonomic center.

The autonomic center:

Where in the body are the sources and storage areas of bioelectrical energy to be found? Our first hypothesis was-the autonomic nervous system (primarily the celiac; hypogasrtric, and pudendal plexuses). I will shortly offer clinical support for this assumption. The autonomic nervous system represents the generator, that is, the source of the electrical energy of the human body. The experimental investigations reported in the first part of this paper thoroughly substantiate this assumption. Now let us test to what extent it is supported by clinical facts and how it enables us to comprehend hitherto unexplainable phenomena in neurotic and emotional disorders.

To do this, we must free ourselves from a preconceived notion which conventional thinking in neurology and medicine tends to foster. The term "center" usually refers to the cerebrum and its associated relaystations through which the nerve impulses are conducted. It would be premature to discuss in detail the appropriateness of such a use of this term. In any case, it involves the mechanical concept of the cerebrum as the true control center and source of all impulses which are transmitted to the rest of the body. The cerebrum is seen as the ruler, so to speak, of all of man's actions. However, recent work in neuropathology (especially that of Goldstein) has sought to bring forth a completely new concept which seems to deprive the cerebrum of its hitherto dominant function. The discovery of the autonomic functions has excited the interest of all branches of medicine. Moreover, the essential workings of this system and its relationship to the psyche are being eagerly explored.

My formulation of the function of the vagal and sympathetic systems, the basic antithesis of vegetative life, is in complete accord with this newer direction and opposes on many counts mechanistic cerebral physiology. A lengthy discussion would be premature here but we must make clear that the expression "autonomic center" implies much more than merely the "center" of the autonomic nervous system: It really connotes the center of all biophysiological and character-affective functioning in general.

According to this view, the cerebrum--conservatively speaking is only a specially developed accelerating and braking apparatus for the totality of autonomic bodily functions. This view is supported by the undeniable fact that the living organism shows an instinctive purposefulness long before the cerebrum is developed. In particular, the emotional processes, such as pleasure, anxiety, and anger, which have so greatly concerned us here, are by no means dependent on the existence of the cerebrum. Autonomic functions are phylogenetically older than those of the cerebrum. Thus the expression "autonomic center" has a much deeper significance than might appear at first glance. We must assume that cerebral functioning is also dependent upon autonomic functioning in general.

If we place a grid electrode on the epigastrium, about halfway between the umbilicus and the xiphoid process, the skin potential usually registers about -20 to -40 mV. If a finger is pressed into the abdomen near the electrode, there is a steady drop in potential of about 10 to 20 mV. The same thing happens when the subject bears down as if at stool or inhales deeply. One may object that the fall in potential is due to the finger pressure on the skin. But, since deep inspiration produces the same kind of potential drop, this objection is invalid. When the subject exhales, the skin potential slowly rises to its previous level. During respiration, patients who are chronically held in the diaphragm and unable to exhale fully show lower and less clearly defined potential deflections than subjects with complete respiratory motility. This symptom warrants careful consideration. During inspiration, the diaphragm descends, compressing the organs beneath it; the abdominal cavity diminishes in volume, while the chest expands. During expiration, the opposite occurs: The chest contracts, and the abdomen expands. A second phenomenon points in the same direction. On deep inspiration, all vegetative streaming sensations subside completely in the upper abdomen. Conversely, on deep expiration, sensations akin to pleasure or anxiety appear in the upper abdomen or lower chest.

A glance at the organs of the abdominal cavity will clarify these experimental results. We see that two important organs lying beneath the dome of the diaphragm are mechanically displaced by the diaphragmatic movement. These are the stomach and the underlying Solar plexus, the largest plexus of the autonomic nervous system. We have observed empirically that pressure reduces the buildup of electrical charge. We must further assume that the skin is continually being charged by a steady bioelectric current arising from a "still un-determined center." With pressure or anxiety, the charge on the skin decreases. In a state of pleasure, the bioelectrical charge reaches out like an animal to contact the outside world; in a state of anxiety, it pulls back. Now let us try to picture what happens to the viscera surrounding the abdominal and pelvic nervous plexuses when a person is in a state of fright:

1.The breath is drawn in deeply, and the shoulders are pulled up;
2.the abdominal muscles contract tightly; and
3.the pelvic floor quickly pulls up.

Thus the abdomen behaves in anxiety like a creature that has something to protect. The walls press more closely on its contents. It seems obvious that what is being protected is the highly sensitive ganglia apparatus of the abdomen and the pelvis. The drop in abdominal skin potential upon compression or contraction of the abdominal wall can only be explained by the fact that an increased pressure is exerted on the plexus, which inhibits its bioelectrical activity. We will substantiate this theory in a later presentation of clinical data. Briefly stated:
Ii it now possible to understand neurotic sexual stasis, on a physiological basis, as The expression of the impaired functioning of the autonomic ganglia.

Peter Kelder suggests that the procreative urge when "turned upward" would result in a profound energizing and rejuvenation of the body.

What does Kelder mean by "turns the procreative urge upward"?

Wilhelm Reich in Electrical Function in Sexuality, The Journal of Orgonomy Vol.3, Num 2 Nov 1969 explores the idea that the source of energy is in the areas in the solar plexus:

"Where in the body are the sources and storage areas of biological energy to be found? Out first hypothesis was - the autonomic nervous system (primarily the celiac, hypogastric, and pudendal plexus). I will shortly offer clinical support for this assumption. The autonomic nervous system represents the generator, that is, the source of the electrical energy of the human body."

I assume that Peter Kelder meant abstinance from sexual activity. What is then implied is that you will have the ability turn the urge upwards.

From a reading of Wilhelm Reich it would seem that the ability to transfer the electrical charge from the sexual generative organs into the autonomic nervous system cenetered in the solar plexus could be considered a more useful definition of "turning the procreative urge upward".

The Five Rites when looked at in this light are interesting the way that the solar plexus gets particular attention in each rite. Sexual activity may not need to be completely avoided but it may benefit to keep the idea in mind that the electricity energy centers are in the solar plexus and to direct that energy with the imagination from the sexual centers into the solar plexus.

In my opinion the 'Elixer of Life' is not some sort of by-product of withholding semen as some people may belive. If it were seminal then women would not benefit from these Five Rites and we know from experience they benefit as well as men from these practices. The 'Elixer of Life' is the bio-chemical electicity (Orgone) that the body uses to maintain health and consciouness. It is produced in limited amounts and used in habitual ways by the body each day. The Five Rites, with a dose of Wilhelm Reich thrown in, can show a quick and effective way of increasing the source of the electrical energy of the human body.

Peter Kelder was in Tibet in the 1930's but his work has nothing to do with the Tibetian culture that we are familiar with today. To call The Rites Tibetian Rites is really an attempt to exploit the Tibetian culture. We have attempted to avoid that association at Borderland Sciences.

Borderland Sciences Research Foundation has the copyright for this material since 1975 under its actual title The Eye of Revelation. The Fountain of Youth is merely a reprint of this material padded with 100 additional pages. Because Eye of Revelation is such a silly old name we have called Peter Kelders work The Five Rites for years and years.

The Five Rites have been important to Borderland Sciences because they are a powerful example of a simple empirical experiment that you can perform with no tools and experience a powerful change in your consciousness and perception.

The Five Rites as given by Peter Kelder do not make reference to ether, glands, or chakras but simply to Vortexes. The connection of the Vortexes to the glands of the Endocrine system is no mere coincidence; this is an ancient borderland science. The glands and the nerve plexus are the physical manifestations of the chakras. I imagine the colorful wheels depicted in chakra mythology are descriptions of the fields viewed through highly developed senses that can perceive the ether as Rudolf Steiner describes in his ideas on perception and sense development.

That the glands are radiating energy we know from the radio, electric interpretation of life as developed by George Crile; "Evolution probably seized upon the factors that have the power of shifting the amount of radiation toward the short wave field, hence increasing the amount of electricity generated. Thus, an increase in the electrical charge increases the muscular and glandular activity of the animal."

The Five Rites seem to enhance the ability to shift the amount of short wave radiation toward the short wave field. We seem to see a glimpse of the etheric/electric transmutation taking place within the Vortex. The Five Rites stimulate the entire "energy-controlling system" and hypothetically the body's ability to receive vital force is enhanced

From universal scientific principles we can begin to build a hypothesis on how it is the development of the endocrine system that underlies one of the major benefits of certain types of exercise.

It is not the ancient religious practices of Tibet that empowers these five simple movements.

It is more likely that the Tibetians had discovered some secrets to consciousness and the endocrine system and encodeded them in poetic language and ritual practice.

Some strange stuff comes out of Tibet.

The Five Rites are clearly much more of a Secular Magick than anything resembling any of the ancient religious practices of the far east. This is a perfect example of the universal idea getting transplanted in new soil. That these movements have an intrinsic value to the health has been amply demonstated.

Things have been going on fine until the last few years when we have these new "teachers" of the five rites who want to exploit the technology for their own personal interests. Peter Kelders work has been preserved by Borderland Sciences since at least as early as 1975 but you will see no mention of this in the newer versions.

There are 32 pages in the original book by Peter Kelder. He did speak with Llamas in Tibet and this is the record of what he learnt. This original account is only available from Borderland Sciences Research Foundation. This is not traditional Tibetian religion but this is powerful evidence of an ancient practice that is rooted in the Borderlands of perception.

You can find the various judges' actual comments there... to me, those are the most horrifying documents in the whole story. Obviously, what made the Salem Witch Hunts possible is still alive in New England. To make a long story short, recently, after a very prolonged and difficult struggle, Rev. Magdalen won back custody of her child... only to have it again denied BEFORE SHE COULD EVEN SEE HIM by an "emergency stay order." This means that now the case must go to a higher court -- which is good, because it will be FIVE judges who aren't just yokels from that same small town, who managed to get themselves elected as family court judges. There is a good chance that, when the case is seen by educated people, Magdalen will regain full custody of her son.One of the nightmarish aspects of this, however, is that, because the biological father supposedly has "Chronic Fatigue Syndrome," he has never had to work and is a trailer-court welfare case. This means that the state pays for his lawyers! But because the Bevilacquas each work the equivalent of two jobs, they have to PAY for their lawyers.And they have to pay a new, DIFFERENT lawyer to handle the higher appellate court case.

I'll still be represented by the same firm, Lipsitz, Green, Scime, Cambria, but a different individual will be handling the case."We go before the Fourth Circuit Appellate Division on June 2, and then they will make their decision within 30 days of that. I am cross-appealing to ask that the parts of the decision forbidding me to make or keep SubGenius art inside my home, travel with my husband for his job, and homeschool my son, be struck down. Until then, my son has to stay with my ex, though I am supposed to get "extended visitation." Instead, Mr. P____, knowing I was literally on the way to get my son from his school, deliberately released my son to my ex, so when I got there he was gone. My ex took my son and disappeared with him that whole night, not returning my son until the appeal went through. I called my ex and begged him over cell phone to tell me at least where my son was, if he was still in the state or the country, or what, and he just laughed and said that I would never find them. "It was the most horrible night of my life, and it was made so much worse by knowing that this did not have to happen, but Mr. P_____, who had been a witness in the case and was fully aware of the vicious hostility involved, chose to pick one parent over the other, directly in contradiction to the written order that I had sent him a copy of. I don't know what to make of it. I contacted the superintendent of Lyndonville Central Schools, and she refused to take any disciplinary action against Mr. P_____. My lawyer, Mr. Mattingly, is preparing a case for bringing charges against Mr. P_____, so I will update you all again when I know more about that. I know a lot of you are going through your own custody issues, so I thought you might like to know that this kind of flagrant abuse can happen-your children might not be as safe at school as you think they are."Anyway, that's about it for me, I hope all is well with all of you! My finances are still in extremely dire straits-I am $2,000 short of the retainer fee I need to proceed with my appellate lawyer, even after my father lent me his entire life savings as collateral on a loan, so if anyone feels motivated and has some extra cash, it would be so very much appreciated. But then, after following the Anna Nicole saga and seeing the way they treated her, I still don't have a lot of confidence in the American legal system. Altar, Consciousness Revised

To begin though, time (imaginal or not) moves in periods. A period is a "place" of occurrence. Burroughs statement "death needs time for what it kills to grow in" serves as a valuable koan to unravel this knot. The period is what is initiated in a ritual setting, for the ceremonially minded. From opening to banishment is one period of time. You can gradient the occurrence into finer and finer periods of time, but these measurings will always throw back the same conceptual 'wavicle.' Time blips.

There are assumptions we make based on our previous experience, one of which is that 2+2 always equals 4. Another is that 2+2 immediately equals 4. A friend of mine (with a mental clarity I myself lack) pointed out that 2+2 is only 2 2's until they've been rectified to 4 (or 10, or 11) through the passage of time. But 2+2 is equaling 4 on paper, and continues to do so over and over after it is written, wherever it is written, for each and every incident in which 2+2=4 is signified. Thus, the period, or time blip of 2+2 equaling 4, is happening in a concurrent abstract imaginal time which shadows our time stream, much in the way the electronic reality of telephones, telepresence, and the juggernaut meant by thee "world wide web" parallels our own malkuthian physicality. If this shadow time exists, and it is the place where math occurs, then it must also be the arena of bind runes and logograms. It is the sphere of logos, the eighth sphere of the ancients heaven.

Knowledge, information, is a new ordering, or a reformation, of ignorance. Ignorance can be thought of as a formless void, a place of not-as-of-yet. When knowledge takes up space inside, the ignorance is re-arranged to be meaningful. This formation is a physical reality, and takes place within the protein strands that make up the cell walls of neurological tissue.

That which is known never becomes unknown, but it can become inaccessible. The brain being what it is, the crucifixion of matter and energy upon which consciousness writhes, it can move along axis in time that are un or pre-physical.

Another friend of mine would argue that 2+2=4 (or 10, or 11) happens instantaneously, that a number line is essentially one-dimensional space, and only in the most arcane religious sense could one expect some underlying parallel reality to exist where numbers play with each other. As a materialist, he's convinced that if something occurs, it is in no way related to some abstract world of forms riding concurrent to our malkuthian realm, but instead comes about through some primary purpose, along with a host of secondary agents all quantifiable by physical measuring. 2+2 equals 4 because 2+2 always is 4, there is no prior point to 4 during which 2+2 is in the action of becoming 4.

Pythagoreans and hermetics are often referencing a Perfect World of Forms - the idea being that there's only One of any one group of like things, and that it isn't there in the mundane world, only in the abstraction thought of when we reference a specific noun in conversation. This perfect form existed in Mind alone, where Mind is the perfect mind of all those thinking about that perfect form. Without the idea of a perfect world of forms it'd be pretty freakin hard to write on a computer system and email away a bunch of digital notations.

Imaginal time occurs in this perfect world of forms, and it is through operations in imaginal time that new One things are created, other One things are comprehended, and even more important, some One things are cut away. Everyone has their own private time, their own private symbolic garden in which these One things are clustered, and careful preoccupations can direct the inner gardener to the imagos which to water, which to cut apart. I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about finding the collective source from which mankind culls meaning, and directly applying sigilic techniques to the energy of the as-yet-unmanifest.

There are demons who have become so through renaming of gods... thus Astarte becomes Ashtoreth, boshet (or shame) bestowed upon her by magicians (priests, not evil ones but levi ones) and the same happened to Baal become Beelzebub by adding zebub (or flies) to his name. Essentially, they dipped into the imaginal bubble where Baal meant lord, and garbled the code to make Baal unworshipful. Yeah, I know I'm playing with semantic fire here, but the cultural effect is now that by calling upon Ashtoreth you are communing with a decadent godform, a godform mutilated by opposing forces. You'd be better off trying to commune with Astarte - only she's mostly gone, all her energies subsumed by Ashtoreth in the collective unconsciousness.

The ability to generate then transform meaning in those examples implies a kind of cultural propaganda war.

What does it mean? That was the question put to the learned, the mages... these fellows who extrapolate meaning have crafted entire cultures for their various bioregions. Of course, thinking globally, networking globally as magicians is an entirely new beast compared to the ancient magics - Apuleius would lose his mind if faced with the basic accouterments of the technopagan. Those raised in dark cold regions of the earth devise maddeningly harsh cosmologies of fire and ice around their calendar and against that framework they construct their ritual sequences. Islanders in the south pacific, or Aztec priests, or Persian magi would be hard pressed to apply Norse runic magic to their own daily practice (except that it somehow facilitated imagination.) It isn't part of their world view, and it doesn't apply to daily life. Yet all will find reflection in the concepts bound to the moon, for example... or the significance of death, or the concepts of storm, or disease - these physicalities spawn abstractions that can be recognized, their significance transcending the physical form of the abstraction.

But that doesn't fulfill the social duty of the mage, because the relayed wisdom must be put into a context - for at least a while the social group must rise into the same area of thought in which the mage engages abstractions... there must be a key to unlock the verbal transmissions into an internal understanding - the symbolic seed must unflower. Ecstatic states of awareness, the dionysion spirit present in all who tripped on the kykeon, provided a glimpse into the arena in which meaning fought meaning - where ideas breed, battle, and consume, and it is the same place Carl Jung termed the collective unconscious. The closest (if a few years of mucking about with specific agents against 3000 years of precisely synergized compounds can be called close) this culture has come to the Eleusian Mystery Rites was at the hands of the Merry Pranksters, and the reverberations of that carried everyone involved into new mythic resonances within worldwide culture.

Sigilization is the seed of the energy for the aforementioned physicality of abstraction, and as such plays a profound role in creating conduits between the inner world of the mage and the external world of all things. Sigils refract vibrations between the mage utilizing the sigil and the shadow time from which the sigil resides in meaning, as if it were a soul submerged in a fluid of intellect.Magic is willed transformation. That's a pretty straightforward concept. A lot of contemporary magicians are overly involved with manifest evolution, and throughout history evolving consciousness and breaking the barrier between the ego and the self has been the focus of mystery schools and magicians. The formula sigil-servitor-egregore-godform has been more or less kicked around on the elists for more than a decade now, and has surfaced as something of a truism for chaos magicians and provides a superstructure within which religion, marketing, occult practices, and depth psychology can all congregate and exchange information, even if somewhat unwittingly.

The unique form of the glyph is the seed, the potential - it is not an individuated energy form as yet. The first logogram designed is just barely a sigil, one could think of it as a solitary seed for a plant never before grown, an unique crucifixion of potentials, poised between the entity it will come to represent in the abstract world, the place it has come from (within the mind of the designer) the time it was made (each moment or blip a discrete whole in a series of wholes) and the purpose or intent invested in its symbolic structure. From the threads of these four energies a knot is tied on the altar of the mage's consciousness. This 5th energy, this secret knot now tied, is the true sigil - it is an intersection of the glyph, the time of the glyph's making, the energy behind the glyph, and the intent in which the glyph was formed.

Symbols, with their causative mnemonics, are a prime tool of magic, because to will successfully one must be conscious of ones intention, and symbols thus become touchstones for the mind as it navigates the abstractions of shadow time. This mental manipulation of symbols takes place concurrently within shadow time and real time, mind being the gate between the two, as an archway between 2 courtyards. The manipulation of symbols then takes place both within the mind of the magician, as well as within the time stream of the physical and the shadow time wherein abstractions change. Thus, to construct a ritual in physicality is the same as constructing one within one's conscious awareness - and creating symbols acts to prepare the mind for the use of those symbols. Your consciousness is the altar of the temple of yourself, and you have to figure out what symbolic forms hold meaning for you within that temple structure.

Recently, I was advised to turn my skills as a guerilla ontologist toward developing empowering myth and story that undermines the misinformation campaigns being waged publicly on the public mind. So I thought I'd bring out a case example with which I am familiar, that might help form a foundation for understanding how an individual can cause change in an institution.

the Legend of EA_Spouse began with these words: "My significant other works for Electronic Arts, and I'm what you might call a disgruntled spouse."

and Within a six month period from writing those words, she'd whipped up a media storm that only abated with EA Games revising its corporate policy in the face of a PR debacle. It is possible to generate publicity from the grassroots that does create change in corporate structure.

Here are some choice bits from the media following this case:

Software engineers have won a $14.9 million settlement from Electronic Arts, in a settlement of a California class-action lawsuit over unpaid overtime, following a similar $15.6 million settlement reached in October with graphic artists.

According to the new settlement, some of the entry level programmers will be reclassified as hourly workers, making them eligible for overtime pay. In return, they will be allowed a one time grant of restricted company stock, but will no longer receive stock options or bonuses.

The $14.9 settlement money will go to programmers at various levels who worked at Electronic Arts between February 14th, 2001 and February 14th, 2006. The settlement is expected to be a catalyst for changes, not only in other video games publishers and developers, but in other software companies outside of the games industry.

I am devising a work that explains how some people succeed, some people fail, and how to use the principles of magick and a bunch of other shit that actually works.

Here's teh thing. I know this is a viable way to look at it, and I know it sounds like bullshit, but once I explain my point of view, and all these different factors, I'm pretty sure you'll see what I'm trying to show you, and feel what I felt when I first found this shit out. Seriously.

Captology may provide the firmest path to balancing the world’s hegemonic influence yet conceived. Captology is disseminating a vocabulary that illuminates persuasion to a broader audience. Captology helps contemporize and focus the field of persuasion.

Persuasive ’07 gives voice and forum to a discussion of persuasion while broadening the base of those studying persuasive technologies, especially those using these technologies to help humanity. Historically, persuasion has generally only been studied by those who sought to make more money or control more people. In 2006, Amazon lists 28 books published on persuasion or influence. To put that in perspective, in the 1980s, a total of 8 books on persuasion and influence were published. Persuasion is a more popular topic than ever before. Effective applications of Captology may expedite Rotary Club International’s goal of drinkable water for every human on Earth, more easily facilitate a global engagement of humanitarian concerns and decentralize news reporting.

Persuasion is being taught through home computers via the Internet. Techniques articulated in Captology may be leveraged for both personal and societal sustainability. However, I question the sustainability of Captology as a field of study. Is Captology an academic discipline or just a relative label like criminology? Imagine a Nazi criminologist seeking to understand non-compliance. She began with the terministic-screen that law-breakers are wrong. Today, we would be more likely to study her notes either in psychology, anthropology, or social studies rather than in criminology. The notes of a Nazi Criminologist might better reflect the strategies of hegemonic resistance than a taxonomy of law breakers. Is Captology an inter-disciplinary discourse, or a subset of a study such as rhetorical analysis, information ecology, media studies, or human-computer-interaction?

Computers As Persuasive Technology is a broad subject, begging a definition of persuasive technology. Compounded in the notion or persuasive technology is our ability to identify persuasion. What if persuasion that looks like persuasion is really third-rate persuasion? With what certainty can we identify persuasive technology? If state-of-the-art persuasion is invisible to us, then what is it we’re studying?

A similar problem confronts criminology:

“However, for as long as criminology has been a field of study, it has always been haunted by the theory of ‘the competent criminal.’ For obvious reasons criminologists (and psychologists and socialogists, etc.) only study failed criminals—that is, those persons whose criminal acts led to their conviction and to punishment. From a memetic perspective, the greatest threat to the survival of Captology is over-specialization. Evolution has shown us that isolated species that evolve a fit to a specific mirco-environment often don’t survive relative minor changes to their environment. Captology shows evidence of evolving away from both academia’s rhetorical analysis and academia’s advertising research, and even further away from influence as studied by practitioners of online persuasion. As the language of Captology becomes increasingly incompatible with other studies of influence, the insular effect may prove grave.

In preparation for writing this paper, I conducted six depth interviews among non-academic experts in online persuasion. None of the six were familiar with the term Captology. When I asked what key fundamentals they expected to be taught through Captology, all six expected Robert Cialdini to hold a central role. Five expected xxx’s Scientific Advertising to be a seminal book. Four expected the Zeigarnik Effect to be prominently discussed. What I found through Google Scholar is minimal overlap between scholarly references of Captology and Robert Cialdini and zero overlaps to Captology and either Scientific Advertising or the work of Dr. Bluma Zeigarnik.

Furthermore, for the sake of sustainability, I propose the acronym CAPT be changed from computers as persuasion technology to computer-aided persuasion technology. This change not only mirrors the pre-existing Consumer Research acronym CATI, computer-aided telephone interviewing, but also more accurately reflects the concerns of this discipline, the use of computers for intentional persuasion. However, the current acronym works well from an information ecology perspective, aligning Captology with a McLuhanian media ecology perspective. From the current acronym it is easy to discuss computers as a mechanism contributing to the ongoing production of culture, but this reading of Captology doesn’t appear aligned with the work of the field.

On the one hand, the study of computers as persuasion technology can be read as suggesting the existence of non-persuasive technology, or at least technology whose existence is at times inconsequential. This precept is challengeable. Within academia, Mathematicians label The Butterfly Effect as describing the phenomenon of an unknown minute catalyst transforming a system from one ordering system into another that is scientifically notated using a radically different schematic. Outside academia, some New Age rhetors describe The Gaia Theory as Earth as a living organism in The Universe where all matter is energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, so nothing is outside of us and everything is an essential component. Both cosmographies challenge inconsequentiality.

On the other hand, the study of computers as persuasion technology can be read as the study of the affect of computer technology on culture. Some of the most suasive effects of computers happen in the absence of computers, more specifically, because populations don’t have equal access to appropriate computers. For instance, when rug manufacturers began programming their weaving machines, creating some of the earliest computers, mass production efficiencies brought down the average price of rugs in the late 19th Century. Weavers who wove their rugs by hand were persuaded to take less for their products than they had previously because buyers had less expensive alternatives produced by computer-aided technology. A comprehensive study of the impact of Computers As Persuasive Technology would include these ramifications, and brings us closer to general social studies.

At first glance, Computer-Aided Persuasive Technology may sound as though it were a subset of rhetorical analysis because Persuasion has traditionally fallen within academia’s Rhetorical Analysis. If this be the case, let’s pitch-in and buy Captology’s tombstone and inscribe the epitaph: “I told you I was sick.” Rhetorical analysis is like Latin, they both study dead languages. Sure, Latin is the study of the ancient dead while Rhetorical Analysis is the study of the recently dead. Dead? Yes, dead. Rhetorical Analysis is the study of extant texts, the corpses of live acts of persuasion. But dead in a biological way, also.

Rhetorical Analysis’ overspecialization has created an intellectual island that is drifting further and further away from mating with the most fertile ideas on persuasion. How can I assess the fertility of an idea? By how fast the meme is propagating. Media Studies includes coverage of popular ideas and constructs, also known as Pattern Integrities or Memeplexes. Rhetorical Analysis doesn’t appear to discern a difference between mimesis and memetics, nor distinguishing genetic mimicry from live mimicry, nor discerning mimicry from biological entrainment. If these dynamics are suasive, then unconsciously adopting physical gestures is systemically transformative, creating a form of dialectic on a biological level. In this case, simply using any computer, regardless of content, will affect our behavior, but persuasion doesn’t exist without intent. Just because gravity has an affect on me doesn’t make it persuasive.

An advantage Captology has over Rhetorical Analysis is in testing for what elements truly make something persuasive, confidently expanding the knowledge of persuasion through replicable quantitative research.. An advantage Captology has over many academic disciplines is the accessibility of testing. The fluid dynamic of online activity, allowing for not only more cost-effective testing than in any other medium, but for an environment where tests can be run without the need to label them as tests, thereby circumventing the need for human-test-subject approval. If Captology can leverage ongoing testing to create predictive constructs, then Captology has migrated itself from a soft science to a hard science.

I don’t mean to entirely dismiss Rhetorical Analysis. There are some very sharp tools to be found in Rhetorical Analysis, and Rhetorical Analysis has helped many academics construct persuasive arguments. However, the tools being created by non-academic teachings surely outshine attempts at applied Aristotlean rhetorical construction. Non-academic persuasive teachings tend to address a specific audience with a common persuasive goal. For instance Neal Strauss’ book The Game describes online communities set up to teach men how to persuade women to sleep with them. Another relatively large online community studying persuasion surrounds folks learning how to use computers as persuasive technology to aid their entrepreneurial efforts. Perhaps the largest group of online communities teaching forms of persuasion is activist sites seeking political change. Excluding the theories and tactics advanced by these groups would be like academic mathematicians excluding the developments of probability created around the analysis of mortality tables to aid in the pricing of insurance for the bright, wealthy men who took tea at Lloyds of London, back in the day. Insurance provided sustainability for small business owners which allowed for a redistribution of wealth that challenged the dominant elite of the time. The path to global sustainability may not be visible to us presently. Excluding contributors to our field because they aren’t like us will weaken the health of our field. For Captology to maximize its contribution to the field of persuasion, we must include the best and brightest ideas as quickly as possible.

How do we ascertain the state-of-the-art in persuasion, especially as it relates to computers? I can Google persuasion and see the results of their logarithms, or I can check on Amazon and see what’s selling there. However, if I had a vested interest in perpetuating a meme, e.g., Captology, I would employ common search engine optimization techniques, like producing an event that uses many of the key words I want to be associated with the meme I was promoting and asking colleagues to link to my page(s). Persuasive ’07 uses many of the tactics commonly employed by search engine optimization practitioners. Human Computer Interaction uses search engine optimization as a descriptor of spamming for monetization as it relates to boosting, hiding a cloaking.

However, many entrepreneurs employ search engine optimization tactics as means to increase the likelihood of sustainability for their micro ventures. Many have developed techniques that few would classify as spam in any taxonomy. Today, when I Google “persuasive,” Captology.Standford.edu comes up third. Is monetization the key distinction between the increased search results of Captology and the spamming tactics employed by an entrepreneur? Where can I learn about online persuasion techniques like search engine optimization, from non-academic persuasion teachers who often self-identify as Information Marketers.

The likelihood of Captology’s sustainability will likely be greatly increased by covering the techniques applied and taught in non-academic online persuasion communities. Coverage of these techniques would breathe vitality into this young discipline by introducing the technology of independent persuasion experts into academia.

I imagine some scholars arguing that bridging academia with independent persuasion experts would replicate academic Advertising Research. Formal Advertising Research investigates the efficacy, and paths for determining efficacies, of sponsoring mass media. Even when Advertising Research studies online advertising, they are only observing what they see through their screen of advertising. Some of the work of the greatest persuaders of the 20th Century is not studied in their filed. Edward Bernays, and the work he did for The United Fruit Company, his persuasion gets pushed over to “public relations” and Carl Rove’s work as a Direct Marketer is not encompassed by the academic study of advertising. Yet these men have wielded some of the greatest and most orchestrated forces yet known in subtle persuasion.

Independent is a key distinction above, because organizational structures look different without oversight. Oversight and gatekeeping are inherent in sponsored environments. While independent is a key distinction here, perhaps entrepreneurial is a better descriptor. Somebody independently wealthy may not have to conform to successful practices of sponsored environments, but nor do they need to create behaviors that lead to sustainable finances. Financially successful entrepreneurs are free of many institutional gatekeepers, and their methods have yielded systems that are, at least in the foreseeable future, sustainable. In order to create their sustainability, many of these business people have proven proficiency in utilizing technology persuasively. They were applied scientists who split test many elements of their websites. Often, the wider and more long-distanced their anticipatory strategy, the more successful they have become.

In 2005, John Reese had the first entrepreneurial million-dollar day, where a sole-practitioner launched a new product and persuaded enough folks to buy that he exceeded one-million-dollars in revenue. Since then, several solo-entrepreneurs have had million-dollar days. What do these online launches have in common? Jeff Walker helped strategize almost all of their online marketing plans, using recursivity and character based narratives to build and sustain interest in a new product launch. This coupled with an organization of joint-ventures and affiliate marketing made accessible via the Internet has turned several smart business people into multi-millionaires.

The common template, the Jeff Walker construct, is where an information marketer tells their story of how they first started making money at a specialized skill, often a form of computer-aided persuasive technology. The new product launch typically takes seven days in which the target audience grows to know the information marketer, not dissimilar from the lesson at Captology.tv/ node/159. However, Walker’s construct details an optimal cadence, quantity of events and subjects he’s found required to launch a successful new product. Recursivity is employed through the character based narrative of how this new product leverages previous skills to make possible what had previously been inaccessible. The influx of successful new entrepreneurs from this training is not replacing the vanishing middle-class in America, however, the audiences generated that are hungry to learn the nuances of media manipulation is not inconsequential. More and more, small bands of people will be able to create sustainable financing for themselves or the non-profits of their choice. The tools that used to be relegated to the wealthy and those controlling large budgets are now suddenly much more readily available.

Academia has shown me a bias against money. I have had a tutor in online persuasion for the past semester, Tellman Knudson. I met Tellman eighteen months ago when he was broke. Malcom Gladwell is writing about Sorcery. Blink is mainly about adjusting perceptions and cognition while Tipping Point is primarily about affecting change. To put that in Castaneda's terms, Blink is about learning to See and Tipping Point is about applying your Will. If you were to add David Allen's Getting Things Done you would have impeccability and would be acting as a warrior.

Untrained introspection destroys people's ability to utilize rapid cognition. However, training in a systematic approach to the subject matter can over time become embedded in the unconscious and improve rapid cognition. The reason for this is that too much data is detrimental. Instead we need to find the key details, what Castaneda would call the Joints.

Systematic Blinking

Train yourself by looking at key details systematically

Hide extraneous or misleading information

Accept and appreciate rapid responses as data rather than as judgments

Slow or calm situation and reactions as much as possible to maintain conscious control.

It is by controlling the framing context of the situation systematically that we get the best results from our rapid unconscious cognition.

Sometimes when you attempt to bridge two idea...you get stuck in that one position where your legs are spreading wider and wider until you feel like your whole idea is going to take a bath...

Magickians of Simpleology pt 1

How we approach this image will tell us a lot about our personal perceptions.

As a Magickian of Simpleology, a term I use to describe the similarities between the ancient sciences of manifesting your will or co-creating with G_d and the simple science of Simpleology.

Living is this realty tunnel as I do...I perceive this image much different than anyone who has expressed themselves so far.

The first this that strikes me is that his "neighbor" or "friend" seems to be interupting a private ritual...and then asking him on short notice why he is doing this ritual. From the general reaction of ridicule from the audience here you can only imagine that this individual, half-naked, covered in body paint, and doing magick with his dinner (in his own yard I assume) was going to be extremely embarrassed...and offer the quickest answer that was foremost on his mind at the time of being interupted. He was deeply visualizing himself owning a car. He was practicing the second law of Simpleology, of the Law of Clear vision. The entire point of magickal ritual is to build up intense visualizations that you are extremely emotionally excited about. The "silly" diagrams that he sits in...when they are composed,if he is a Magickain of Simpleology,of the series of stright liness that will be required to manifest the goal. These lines or steps are combined into a final image that is then the ultimate focus for the visualisation during the ritual. This is the First Law of Simpleology in action. These practices are ancient and cause the attention and the energy to be focued on one image in an extremely powerful way...if this sort of dramatic interaction with your unconscious mind turns you on. To those who do enjoy dealing with deeper levels of imagery and intensely focused emotinal energy...the Third and Fourth Laws of Simpleology are manifested. That of Focused Attetion and Focued Energy.

Why does he have a dead chicken? Is this purely satanic? Well lets not forget that there is no real satanic religion per se, and that what we hear about in the news in wackos who are perverting a few religions...namely Christianity. Little known are the actual religions of Western Africa that immigrated with the slaves ( I said immigrate...?). This religion took up root in the islands where many of the slaves were growing sugar for the triangle trade of the day ( Sugar, Slaves, and Rum). In africa they sacrificed animals in rituals very similar to the way the Hebrews in the Bible did before the Romans destroyed their temple and Christianity had their own version. In Africa they would bless the animals ritually and then eat them in a big communal feast. This was transferred to Voodoo which was the western manifestation of West African religion. Outsiders might see a person dancing around with a chicken and then see them kill it and get the wrong idea...they may go home to a chicken dinner and fret about it. So we can see that ritually killing a chicken is not just killing an animal out of cruelty it may be part of a persons actual way of praying...which in America we have the deepest toleration and respect for. Never Forger IT!

So in a lot of ways...this image could be your buddies...asking you why you are spending fifteen minuets everyday scribbling into a notebook and not returning their calls till the evening and saying weird stuff like "I had to finish my daily praxis"

In fact, funny as it may seem, just this week I had a Magickian give me a hard time for promoting Simpleology as magick. It would be the reverse of this comic strip...and it happened yesterday. The guy who already has his affiliate network knowledge down, has been to college, has money to burn hosting a cultural web resourse...wondering why I want to make such a big deal out of such simple techniques.

I simply told him that they worked...and you know what...so did several other people. I was not standing alone in my convictions, in the concoction of ideas that merged two streams of consiousness into one.

Since I still have you...

If you are a Magickian you can get lost in the tons of techniques you have to learn and the amount of symbolism that you have to digest. People get lost all the time...these are the ones we see and make fun of. They are confused...much like we make fun of Jehovas Witnesses who tell us that the UN is actually Satan. We have tolerance, try to understand they are confused and hopefully avoid talking with them too long. I deeply apologize to any Jehovas Witnesses...in advance. No one knows the bible better than the JW's and they have a very interesting past. Bear with me...I really don't want to insult anyone to make an example.

When you are a Magickan you get a grand philosophy of making change in accordance to your will and a bunch of boring breathing and visualization techniques. Most people call it a scam at this point. But...the same is with Simpleology..."visualization and list making, I thought this was going to show me how to get what I want?"..."I already have a huge list, uggg"...or a number of reasons why they fail to grasp what seems to a Lesson 18 victor will see a the simplest most powerful thing in the world.

Magickains of Simpleology pt 2

When you combine the Magickal Philosophy of creating change in accordance with your will with the SYSTEM of Simpleology all the sudden it turns on the lights. It is not a systhesis for everyone that is for sure. If you have an interest in what is considered the occult but you do not want to fall into some sort of goofy satanic religion or some lame guru then I feel that Simpleology is vital. Once you see how the mechanics of the mind work when striped away from the emotinal imagery of the (religious) symbolism you will be equiped to explore the occult without superstitious reactions. It is not spirits or gods that bring you things...that is folk magick or superstition. It may work sometimes but will not get you the car unless you are lucky. There IS no end to dumb luck...but it is not a Magickal System for creating change in accordance with the will. Once you see that you can create change with deep visualisations and focused attenion and energy without emotional symbolism then you can safely play with the potent imagery of Magick. You can discover that when you visualise your spine like a flashing rainbow... your imagination stimulates your deepest feelings. You can tap a huge...almost unbelievable amount of energy with some of the "magickal" visualisations that are common in my tradition. There is, for example, a visualisation technique called the "assumption of the godform"...where you visualize yourself as if wearing an image of a certain god that has a particular symbolic meaning that I associated with my desire, you become that image and act as that image. You generally speak the desire out loud and then visualise it happening. Often one will use the godform of Thoth, the god of wisdom and the word...it is he who speaks his desire and has if fulfilled. If these images have deep associations for you, as they do me since I was a kid, then emotional energy will be increased when you feel the "psychological" shift in your awarness. Technically it is just an increase in the DMT that the pineal gland produces...but hey...can you get your pineal gland to release DMT at will? You will if you do your daily praxis regulary...you will find that those visualisations give you a charge you can't expalin.(Not medical advice)

Magickians of Simpleology pt 3

Well, kids...now that your parents are in the other room...

Get some chalk...go into the garage and draw a circle...you will discover how hard that can be. Do the math to simply draw a simple pentagram...again you will be stumped. If you wing it...it will look like it...imperfect...it will distract your focus and ruin your emotions.

If you think you are interested in this...and have never thought of this as something that is not evil...or just never had the right impulse...keep listening...

Figure it out with geometry...do some research. I will help you with the circle. If you take a line tie it to a stick, hold the stick where you want the center of the circle, tie the chalk to the free end of the line, adjust the length and then carefully trace the line arund the stick. It helps if you have two people.

Here is the SECRET...and you really think that there are no little secrets to making this work...or making an ass of yourself...there are it is a razor and you may need a good guru...like myself...but you can't afford me...

When you are doing all of this tedious geometry you must be focused on your desire. You cannot just mindlessly draw this shape...when you draw the circle you are actually feeling as deeply and you can the very bounderies...the total extent of all your personal power. As you lay the lines down...carefully observing he proper laws of geometry you must be focused on your desire...the geometry is a language that you are expressing your desire in. As you draw simple straight lines visualise the steps that it will take to manifest your will, it almost always takes more than one step or one change to manifest desire. Five changes...Seven changes...there is a good possibility that you can do it in seven steps.

When you finish you have exerted the left part of your brain to construct the exact shape as closely as you are physically able ...the whole time exerting the right side of your brain with emotional visualisation of your desire.

When you look down you have created a non-verbal statement of your intention. The deepest parts of your mind are getting this message. When you sit inside this shape...allow all the previous ideas of steps merge into being the thing you want at that moment. The guy in the cartoon was no doubt driving down the road in his car...deeply immersed...more immersed that most of us have the idea that is even possible (or desired).

There is a Temple with Nine Pillars. It is one of the gates that the time travel millionaires use to shuttle back and forth and seed their investments. Two of my main interests in life are graffiti, and the practice of ceremonial magic. It wasn’t long after I started stumbling my way into magic that I started to notice similarities, and parallels between the acts of carrying out ceremonial magic, and going out and doing graffiti.
Both are self-initiatory processes that transmute how we consciously interact with the world around us. When one picks up the bulky marker, or can of paint, and sets it against the drollness of modern homogenized landscapes, something changes in the mind of the implementer. Suddenly the world becomes a much more fantastic place. Seemingly bland urban landscapes become the playground of a hidden illicit art world. Everything becomes vast, and inspiring, while at the same time personalized. Blurred lines scrawled clandestinely all over the place become sigil gateways into a hidden, yet omnipresent world. Yet experience shows us that the drive towards the rapture of the fantastic belongs at our disposal, and in our individual control. Like magic, graffiti is all around us, but both are hardly noticed by those not involved with either. It already is a form of the occult in the literal sense—hidden knowledge—its experience and understanding available only to the initiated.

Graffiti is a hidden art, done clandestinely by individuals or groups, who more or less form a secret society. How many graffiti crew names are three letter acronyms, just like various occult groups–the O.T.O., the I.O.T., the E.O.D., etc.?

The implementing of graffiti involves a process of making our surroundings conform to our will. It involves an evocation of dynamic, creative praxis upon various spaces/surfaces that in turn blurs the boundaries between the mundane and the fantastic imposed by western consumer anti-culture. “EVERY NUMBER IS INFINITE; THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE!” Very well indeed, and graffiti brings this realization to the forefront of our locale. It’s not magic done in the ambiguous space of some “astral plane,” but in our immediate environment.

Graffiti is a localized network of information exchange. Its information is itself, and its intent is so simple as to astound. It shows us that we only choose to be alienated from our surroundings and the modern landscape. It shows us that we still have the capacity for intimate, personal interaction with our surroundings, even if they are “unnatural.” Everything that exists, exists in nature—there is no such thing as being outside of it. There is no getting back to nature; you never left, nor could you. Our environment still shows us a great dynamic of experience and process, regardless of how many strip malls we build to distract ourselves from the magnitude of what we are capable of experiencing.

Antinomian Psychotopography

Carrying out graffiti changes how one consciously conceives notions of space, property and environment. These changes allow for the interactive personalizing of typically bleak, dehumanized, alienating modern landscapes. For the magician, this opens up a whole new realm to exploit and work with. Modern landscapes are only depersonalized if you choose not to interact with them. “The flow of things,” so to speak, is still present in man-made environments, and is still exploitable.

If you live in a city, you develop a routine which causes you to come across the same people, and go by the same places, on a regular basis. Change your schedule, and patterns will still emerge. Synchronicities abound to a bewildering extent in an urban environment. Constantly omnipresent, amongst all this continual convergence of circumstance, is graffiti.

People often mix their magical practices with their art. For more horizontal, results-based magic, graffiti seems like the most logical art form to implement will through, as it is already an art form that causes our environments to conform to will, and is so firmly entrenched in our surroundings. In a city, graffiti comes and goes. It’s constantly shifting and changing. Some fades away, wheat-pasted flyers get ripped down, walls get buffed, but then more pops back up. Its very existence is fractal; it’s the stuff of chaos.

Hijacking graffiti for magic further mutates how the mind interacts and preserves modern landscapes. Alleyways as temples; dumpsters as alters; Mercury racing his message along graffiti-sigil-encrusted telephone poles; buses become the chariots of the gods; subway tunnels and the undersides of bridges become the subterranean depths of chthonic realms.
There are places in our time that “decent folk” avoid, or are oblivious to. Ghettos, undersides of bridges, (post) industrial wastelands, alleys, vacant lots, abandoned buildings, train tracks, train bridges, aqua ducts, steam tunnels, sewage drains, etc. These cracks in Babylon—unfit for, and forgotten by, the consumer god—are shrines of its inversion, the new antinomianism. These places are epicenters of “illicit,” unsupervised freedom—clandestine events, people getting wasted, having sex, sleeping, squatting, graffiting, or merely hanging out—all in a place unrelated to commerce (a “sin” in itself) that isn’t some trite, regulated, allotted park. In our era, which lacks Terra Incognita (land unknown), these places become our secret valleys, our new Atlantis, our new Alamouts.

Street Guerilla Magic Tactics

Sigils and servitors seem to be the two key magical techniques that lend themselves well to graffiti magic. Tag sigils around places prior to charging them. Go to your local printer and make a stack of sigil stickers. Try making a tag by rearranging the letters in a statement of intent, then spray it everywhere prior to charging it. Paint your sigil into a huge, elaborate, graffiti-style painting to disassociate yourself from its original intent. Now your will shall manifest from multiple points of probability.

Take the location of works of graffiti magic into account with the probability of your ritual work. Play the law of averages and fields of probability into your favor as much as possible. Always decrease the room of chance working against you.

Use graffiti paintings as the material basis of servitors. Try programming into the servitor that it is to live as long as the painting is up, then paint in a spot that you know will get buffed in a few weeks if you are concerned about its disposal. Draw a picture of a servitor as its material basis, and then make a stack of photocopies to wheat paste everywhere. Create servitors with these methods who are intended to function virally or vampiricly. Create tags to exist as viral memetic servitors to act your intent through those they come across and infect. Create an art campaign of terror against your enemies in the form of a vampiric servitor that is to feed off of their fear and panic.

There's a great deal of room for exploration in these ideas, and the few presented here are only the tip of the iceberg of what could be done. It has been my personal practice to put stuff up first, and then go do the workings, but this has been a matter of personal preference. I also attempt to avoid those areas for a bit when at all possible.

Digital cameras are very handy with this form of work. Try taking a photo of a place, altering it towards your intent, and working it into a piece of art to put back on the location. When mixing art and ritual magic, it’s useful to have the material and objective aspects of what you’re doing parallel with your intent and what’s going on subjectively in your head. Taping environmental sounds from the areas you’re working with and then splicing them into random juxtapositions can really help in the rituals themselves, specifically if your aim is to effect the places, or those directly involved with them. Public transit provides a common liminal space, and places of fluctuation are often easier to work with. Bus stations, train stations and subway stations are prime targets.

Try video-taping your graffiti magic artwork, then performing the rituals necessary from the view of a TV screen, so as to disassociate oneself from lust for result. This technique, as devised by Thee Temple ov Psychick Youth in the 1980s, lends itself well to graffiti magic. If you’re working with a particular place for a long period of time (cities usually have specific areas where lots of graffiti pops up) you might want to try to find the locations of your work in your dreams. Devise sigils to dream of specific spots, and of course put them there in the physical world. Or choose places to do graffiti magic based on dreams you have. A good deal of ritual magic (sigils specifically) is mediating the subconscious to integrate some form of magical intent into the unconscious, so using themes already in your head will save you effort, and most likely work better.

Magic should be lived directly and head on. It’s not something detached from the rest of our lives. Get out of the bars, clubs and coffee shops and out into the world. Break away from passive participation and pursuit of idle oblivion. Walk the streets insulating your intent in everything around you, feel your desire being absorbed into life and expressed through it. Explore and find out things for yourself through direct involvement in your life. Find value and meaning in and through action.

This reminds me of that old man that shared a bottle with me last weekend. He told me his name was Time. He was a grizzled old wino who smelled faintly of pee. He asked me for some change. I was already three sheets to the wind, drinking Guiness Stout so that I did not have to eat dinner. I looked at this old timer and asked what he was drinking. He was reluctant nut when he saw that I was drunk and that I might give him money anyway he told me. I told him to hold on and came back with a fifth of what he was drinking…some cheap whisky. We sat down somewhere and I can’t remember a thing we talked about.

Forgot to buy pickles

Darn! I picked up veggies but I forgot the pickles.

I guess that pickles don’t have half the probiotics they once did but someting about the vinegar helps my digestion.

I know that apple cider vinegar is popular. I just can’t stand to drink even two table spoons a day.

Forgeting the pickles was the daily target that I missed. I violated the Third Law of Simpleology. I lost my simple-edge.

I kicked butt today.

It being Friday I had procrastinated as long as possible. I took a major brain dump last night and had a very clear idea of how much running around it was going to take to get it all done so I could start to procrastinate about the backyard and mowing the lawn. I had a hefty list of Daily targets and I knocked them out by one. I went the bank, the printer, the office, back to the printer, the post office and then was able to get lunch and head back home. If I got off track for more that 30 mins I would not be able to get it all done. I’m telling you that there is something powerful in the Daily Target Praxis. I am so lazy that I really can do little more that think about what I want to do. Generally it fills me with dread and inspires me to waste time on something that can distract me from unpleasent reality. To do the Daily Praxis you imagine yourself hitting your target and you also feel how good it is going to feel. It is easy. I woke up to day and actually felt like doing stuff was excited to do stuff. Sure is was the first sunny day in ages but I really enjoyed knocking this stuff out on schedule today.
